The Interrupted Life

How will I respond when God takes my life down a path I had not planned or even imagined?

Those were the words I wrote at the top of my Bible study page this morning as I sat still to hear what God had to say to me today.

In her new Bible study Jonah: Navigating a Life Interrupted, Bible study teacher Priscilla Shirer explains that what we see as interruptions to our lives is really Divine Intervention by the One True God. She went on to explain that every major player in the Word of God had to deal with the tension caused by a life interrupted. Most were on a path or a journey and suddenly God came down, spoke, and intervened changing their direction altogether to fulfill His plans and purposes for their life.

I've often told people that every single time that I've gotten up, surrendered the day to God and asked Him to interrupt my day with someone that needed to know about the hope that He alone provides, He has always done just that. Jonah's life as a prophet was interrupted by God's instruction for Him to go to Nineveh - a place of hopelessness - and bring hope. Priscilla said that God often sends us into the hopeless place because it is in the hopeless place that we can see the hope of God. Not only do we see the hope of God, but others see the hope of God in us.

When you surrender to Him, you don't look at interruptions the same way anymore. You look at them as opportunities to do what He has called you to and to make His Name famous. The life you were living becomes The Interrupted Life -- a life that is fully surrendered, fully alive, fully effective and supernaturally empowered.

So my challenge to you today is to look back on the past 24 hours or maybe even the last seven days. When your day was interrupted how did you respond to the interruption or perhaps the person doing the interrupting?

When you look at interruptions as Divine Interventions by a Holy God, how then will you now respond? How will I respond?
