I just had a very good conversation with my kids about why there were concerns with the President's speech to school-age students today.
I tried to explain that in its original form the speech and the assignments related to it were worded in a way that made me uncomfortable. But that I was glad that the President recognized our concerns and changed his speech to something that was very wise advice -- work hard, stay in school and be responsible for your own actions.
In the process, I thought it was time to make sure that my displeasure in the first draft of the speech didn't mean that I hated the President. I asked them how was the best way we could help our President. Both said, "Pray for him." I was so proud of them. So I told them this:
"We need to respect the office of the President and pray for the man who holds it -- not matter who he is. We need to pray that he will surround himself with godly men and women who will speak God's truth into his heart. We need to pray that he will learn to hear the voice of God and make decisions based on God's voice and not the voice of anyone else."
To that Lindsey said, "Mommy, can we send him a Bible so he can hear God speak?"
I love that she thought of that and that she responded that way so quickly!
I was just thinking and praying this morning that my kids would have a fiery love for God and His Word. That when they held it in their hands they would realize that it is the very breath of God. I prayed that they would respect it and act on what God tells them through the pages of His Word.
He delighted me with confirmation that the desires of my heart were right on with His.
Thank you, God, for reminding me that You are for us and want to delight us with the desires of our heart when they are parallel with Your desires for us. Thank you that my children are still learning that to read Your Word and to hear You speak are one and the same. Help us all to love You with everything that we have and treasure up and respect the Word that you have so personally given us. Amen.
Blessings,
Dori
