About Thursday Night

I did not see the hour long interview with Steven Curtis, Mary Beth and the entire Chapman family on Larry King Live on Thursday night. I only caught the last few minutes. I believe you can watch the entire thing online and I plan to do that in the quiet moments when the kids are off to school tomorrow.

But as I thought about what I did hear in the final minutes and commented to another friend about my take on it, I thought that I should also share that with you.

I’ve always thought that Larry King needs special prayer from the Christian community because I honestly believe that he is a man who is on the verge sometimes of grasping faith in Jesus — based on his interviews of Billy Graham, Anne Graham Lotz and now The Chapmans. I read that Larry admitted that he lacks the faith that the Chapmans have off camera and that Billy Graham is praying for him, Steven told him something like this, “Well, Larry, then I believe if Billy Graham is praying for you then you are a marked man for faith."

One of the pointers that I have received regarding either writing or speaking is that you need to always make sure that the last thing you say or write is truly the last thing you want your reader or listener to know or remember about your faith in Christ.

Mary Beth did that on Larry King when she said, “When we went all the way down, when we hit bottom, the foundation was strong.”

It was one of the last complete sentences of the evening and I pray that everyone that heard it including Larry thinks about the foundation they are building their life upon — whether THE FIRM FOUNDATION THAT IS JESUS or one of shifting and sinking sand.

Someone wondered aloud if it was even profitable for them to do such a show knowing some of the strange and often immoral guests that grace the set of Larry King Live. Click HERE and watch Larry's "after the show" thoughts and you tell me. Is it worth it if it gives Larry one more chance to crave the immovable and unshakeable faith that we have in Jesus?

Therefore, since through God's mercy we have this ministry, we do not lose heart. Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.

And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

For we do not preach ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake. For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.

But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. (2 Corinthians 4:1-7)

Long Weekend

I'm back from a long weekend with the family. I had purchased a ticket to attend the Beth Moore Living Proof Live Simulcast event in Louisville. I bought it almost a year ago, but after attending Deeper Still in Atlanta I felt like it wasn't my time to go. A friend used the ticket and I can't wait to hear all about it from her and what it was like to be there "live" as the event was seen by simulcast in over 700 other churches.

We did, however, take one of the last two weekends before school starts to go on one last little "mini-vacation." This was more of a relaxing time than our trip to Atlanta. While the trip to Georgia was awesome, it was not restful! So we just drove to Lexington, got a hotel, went to a baseball game and the rest of the time we just slowed down a bit and got some rest. In fact, the most enjoyable day I have had in a long time was Saturday:

Slept until 9:00 am!

Breakfast downstairs at the hotel...in my jammies!

Relaxed by the pool.

Rested in the room.

Early dinner with the family.

After dinner? A NAP!

Baseball game.

Took lots of pictures...of course! We had hoped to do our Christmas card picture somewhere while we were away, but I think we've decided to wait until our October getaway to do that since the leaves will be beautiful.

On my "TO DO" list today:

Catch up on freelance work.

Unpack.

Wash clothes.

Meet Lindsey's new 2nd grade teacher.

Work on 2nd grade Sunday School.

Start breaking down Taylor's room to paint this weekend.

Go work out.

Sort through school clothes to get ready --- ONE WEEK FROM TODAY!

Lofty goals, indeed! I need all the help I can get!!

I'll leave you with the scripture that I believe God handpicked for me today. I've been overwhelmed with feeling that my time has been wasted of late, that words have been carelessly spoken and that my actions have been less than God-honoring. When that happens, my whole house suffers. This is my scripture memory work for this week. Want to join me in not only hearing it but actually doing it?

"The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear minded and self-controlled so that you can pray. Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
